A substantial number of startups fail because they are building the wrong products. To mitigate this risk, here are examples of hypothesis that need to be validated as early as possible:

  • We are targeting the right customer segment(s)
  • We are addressing the right jobs, pains, gains - the things that matter the most to the customers
  • We relieve pains sufficiently
  • We create sufficient gains
  • We are sufficiently different from and/or better than our competition
  • We can reach the market and establish the right relationships
  • We can create more revenue than we incur costs
